Tucson, Arizona

My first trip to Arizona. I had driven through twice when I drove cross country. We had to stop at the Grand Canyon with Jason when we first came out to San Diego, and again when my dad drove with me XC through AZ we stopped again. Actually spending time in the desert however was extremely different. I remember when I drove out here about a year ago with my Dad seeing all the RV’s parked in remote areas of the desert wondering how people would make that decision to live that lifestyle. After visiting Arizona, and seeing how incredibly beautiful it is, I think the RV is not a half-bad idea. Along the way I couldn’t stop taking pictures of the various landscapes, especially how the geography changed as we passed through Eastern California. It was raining on our way there as we passed through the mountains in California. Two hours later the skies opened up, and as we drove into the desert it was a beautiful blue sky.

Devil's Canyon
This picture was taken as we neared the flat rolling desert, this canyon is known as Devil’s Canyon and is also the border of San Diego County. San Diego County basically stretches 90 miles east which I never realized. Once we reached Tucson there was this beautiful sunset that night and we sat out on the patio around the bonfire watching the night sky.
The following day we went hiking with Jason’s cousins through the Sedona Canyon. The views were spectacular and it was incredibly peaceful.

Jason and Sarah

Here is a picture that we took about halfway through our hike, that was about 4,000 ft up. It was amazing up there, everything below looked so small.
All of us

Later that night we went out for Jason’s cousin’s bday. It was her 27th birthday and so we went to a few bars downtown in Tuscon. The first one that we went to had an interesting name, it was called the “The Surly Wench”. They were playing this master mix of 80s music and as 20 somethings gathered on the dance floor dancing to this music which they probably don’t even know the words to I kind of laughed to myself and all of sudden felt extremely old as I sipped my water and sat on my barstool. I took some pictures though, that night of us having some fun,
party time!

We left the following morning, a short visit but a great visit with Jason’s family who I have not met yet. It was a shorter drive than I expected to AZ, about 6 1/2 hours. If you manage to keep your speed in check over the flat straight highways and mountain curves it goes by very quickly and a nice trip.
