Whale Watching in San Diego

Whale Watching in San Diego

Three weeks ago Jason and I decided to do the Hornblower Cruises, Whale Watching Tours in San Diego. We arrived early to ensure the boat did not leave without us and also that we got a good seat. I took this picture of the boat before we boarded:

After we were underway I was very happy that I wore a sweater it was freezing on the water! On board everyone scrambled to the upperdeck to grab a good view along boat. As we left the harbor I took this shot of the coastline and the beautiful San Diego skyline:

As we moved out further past the bay and into deeper water it was fascinating to me to see the changes in landscape. From the suburban coastline with the high-valued property as we moved out further as land turned to open water. We started to approach wildlife. Sea Lions were lounging on a nearby bowie. We moved onward on our search for whales. We finally spotted two grey whales, which were a majority of the species we saw that afternoon. I tried to snap pictures of them all day, but I do not have a high-speed camera and those whales are faster than you think. So here is my best shot of the fluke:

Jason and I were enjoying ourselves on the boat, we saw at least six or seven whales, fifty or sixty dolphins, and about 30 sea lions. We had someone on the boat take our picture at some point:

Afterwards we joined some of Jason’s buddies for a BBQ on the beach in Mission Bay. It was a great day and perfect weather. An amazing day all around and I was happy to spend it with the man I love.
