Independence Day, Bubbles, Baseball and Blasts of Fireworks!!!

Independence Day, Bubbles, Baseball and Blasts of Fireworks!!!

We had a wonderful long weekend of rest and activities for 4th of July fun. The festivities of July 4th began with the long awaited Bubble party. Hazel kept asking sweetly for a “bubble party” as I had started to acquire more and more bubble supplies in the previous weeks. It was even more imminent with the addition of a small battery powered pineapple shaped bubble machine.

So off we went, with the bubbles in full swing early in the morning. As we filled our pop up lanai with bubbles, I quizzed Ella on the history behind the day at hand. She did well, naming most of the 13 original colonies, even did the math correctly to discover that 246 years had elapsed since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. We played, the girls enjoyed and even if possible became more ramped up with every minute of the bubble shenanigans.

Later in the day, we attended a Jumbo Shrimp Minor League game, accompanied with a all you can eat bbq Buffett and fireworks at the end. Jason was alittle turned off by the buffet, the crowds, but most of all by the unrelenting sun and heat of the day. We sat in our seats after gorging quickly on an all American buffet of hamburgers, hotdogs, Mac, coleslaw and popsicles. Once in our seats to our dismay, we had good level of seats along the first base line. But, since the way the stadium sits, as the sun sets we get very little reprieve from the sun. The cool thing was that the stadium is beautiful, the fireworks were unreal, the staff was equally amazing, and further, the girls obtained some free swag and “first game” certificates from guest services. The most touching part was watching our growing girls respectfully stand still and cross their heart during the anthem. The fireworks show after the Walk off home run at the bottom of the 9th inning, was just incredible. The girls, especially, Hazel, showed their fortitude and awe, sitting through the fireworks display in its entirety. Low and behold, here we this time of year wondering how we got to this point in our country’s history,. I find it hard to believe the state of politics and socioeconomic changes at times in present day. However, this is also why I am proud to be in a free country, where I can have my little tiny slice of the universe, speak my mind and live my best life.
