Yesterday I ran a 5k, my first road race in years. Was it glorious? For my mind yes, yes it was. For my body? No not really. In all of my efforts to build my endurance the past 6-8 months working out regularly…I was still a little ill prepared. I ran it, mostly. I finished. The best part was having the whole family there with me. It was a fundraiser to support the organization where are children play recreation football and cheer. The league is called Clay PAL, PAL-(Police Athletic League). The funny name for the race was the Donut Get Caught 5k. I thought in my head that not only would it be great to support Clay Pal, but how fitting for me to run in an organized race run by Law Enforcement?
Ella and Jason ran with me, while cheered with her friends at the starting line. Ella has some serious wheels and blasted Jason and I both in her time. She easily came in below 27 minutes. Jason, who doesn’t run…finished sometime around 30 minutes. And I well. I finished a solid 10 minutes later. I have never been a fast runner. And much slower by far right now. Having my family with me meant a lot. In the past I wait in the corral myself. In the past I always have had them cheering on the sidelines. But to do it together hit differently. I so appreciated the support to test the limits and see what I was still capable of. Not signing up for a marathon anytime soon. But, sure, another 5k and more regular running in my future. I miss it, this showed me how much. Later on in the weekend, it seems that Jason could be slowly dying from his exertions. I am feeling fine, Ella too. Hazel is unaffected. All in all a great time and a good cause. Really enjoyed every minute.
