A Safe Place to Land

A Safe Place to Land

This duet by Sarah Bareilles and John Legend is one of my favorites.

“The ocean is wild and over your head and the boat beneath you is sinkin’. Don’t need room for your bags Hope is all that you have. Say the Lord’s prayer twice Hold your babies tight, Surely someone will reach out a hand. And Show you a safe place to land.”

It has always been a comforting song for me when I haven’t been my best. Assuring me that though it might appear that the world might be slipping away from me. That I am strong and I can find my safe place to be in the present. With many struggles, with alot of pain and tears. With what might seem trivial to some. I have overcome many obstacles. I surely have along way to go and grow. The song is grounding and reassuring.

Yesterday I had therapy for the second time in a week. My therapist helped me realize the work to be done and how I can realistically address each step for now. Tomorrow I meet with my psychiatrist. My moods despite the chaos are quelling and securing themselves.

In the end the lyric says little scared but your strong enough, be the light in the dark of the danger till the sun comes up. Whatever the future holds. Be the light and do not be afraid. And be hopeful for a better tomorrow. Survive. One foot in front of the other. Everything else will eventually fall into place and you and I can have that safe place to land.

Here I am at my MSW Internship this semester at the VA downtown Jax
