The Degenerative Generation

It happens to all of us over time. I am referring to the degeneration of ourselves, our bodies over time. The inevitability of arthritis. The impending doom of back pain. Well what if we could treat it? These days there are many many doctors out there who treat current injuries, but what about preventing the inevitable? Would that be possible? At a very young age I had two things happen. Number one, I developed horrible posture, hunching my back and never holding my neck up high. Number two, I was in a car accident that resulted in years of treatment by orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, ER doctors, and multiple X Rays.

Now the results where I am today. I have degenerate disk disease in my lower back. Also my neck, if you look at my X-Rays, is curved completely forward. There is not much that can be done right? I have this for the rest of my life? I have had numerous doctors tell me I would never be able to run again. Since that time I have run three marathons. I guess that is my way of proving to myself and others that I can overcome obstacles. That does not get rid of the problem that I still have however.

I recently went in for a consult to a local chiropractor referred by my wonderful co-worker, Regina. Dr. Mark, has a small practice in the downtown area of Hillcrest which I never would have looked for and I never would have even considered were it not for Regina. I have now been for 3 sessions and it has already made such a difference in my sleep, mood, sense of being. Dr. Mark mentioned when we started that I needed alot of work done, and we had 5 months to do it (the amount of time left that I have in San Diego). He is a very interesting guy but besides that I am grateful because this might finally be the answer to what has been a 5 year journey since my accident. How to solve my pain. How to get a good night’s sleep. Is degeneration permanent? Maybe? Maybe not.. If treatment is continued and I continue to take care of myself maybe some physical therapy once I move…I might finally have found the answers to my problem.
