Football Sunday and Winston’s Bar in Ocean Beach

Typical Sunday here with Jason. Sometimes we will spend the day home and watch an exciting day of football! Not that I do not like football. I am an easy going person, plus I enjoy all sports, so I get into the competitive action. I must say since I was young I have always enjoyed making fun of my father for how bad the Redskins were. Well it just so happens that there is a Redskin’s BAR IN SAN DIEGO!?!?!? It is called Winston’s in Ocean Beach. So when we do not stay home, we head over to Winston’s for some Redskin’s action.

To describe what it is like there, there is really no one word explanation. It is probably a man’s best friend (on sunday’s) and a Church’s worst nightmare. There are tons of Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia transplants there who congregate into this dimly lit room and cheer on their home team decked out in the Redskin’s jerseys of course. I have seen at least 100-130 people in that bar at one time. They come, no matter what, because they are loyal fans.

Today was a tough loss to the Detroit Lions. With moments of excitement, I took these shots around the place:

Hail to the Redskins! After a touchdown

So after the game we drove over to Sunset Cliffs, where I have run before because I wanted Jason to see how beautiful the view was. It was a perfect day in San Diego, not a cloud in the sky and a perfect 68 degrees. We climbed down the rocks and watched the waves crash over. I tried to get him to stay longer, but he was in a hurry to go watch football. Men..pffft.

When we returned home you guessed right. Jason just wanted to watch football. So I left to go shopping for new running shoes. I went over to RoadRunnerSports, which is huge! I wanted to buy everything! I settled on the newer model of my current shoe, the Asics Nimbus 12. Which are very comfortable. I also got a fuel belt for the race and which I need for safety reasons for my long runs anyway. I tested them out later this evening when I took Bailey out for his evening walk. Well I did a quick recovery run about 2 miles. They were so comfortable! I couldn’t believe it. I still have some pain from yesterday’s run but I am hoping it will subside by tomorrow.

In summary…Winston’s and Football Sunday’s are just the highlight of my week let me tell you. I just have to plan my week around it to make sure i have nothing else scheduled. No I do enjoy it but in small amounts. I don’t like the “all day long” football thing like Jason does, but I find things to keep me busy.

  1. Well….I practiced in the Detroit area for over 33 years. But I can tell you the Lion’s win over the Redskins was a lucky shot for them…I loved football too at Jason’s age …But I have learned that as a man ages, The Wife is more important to be around . I guess all the Hoop La and male drama goes with time …but being with my wife and pleasing her, put a Fire in my Heart !

So I hope you new running shoes put “fire” in your runs ..( every thought you bought a different Brand then I recommended !) ….that just goes to show you Own Assertiveness …Go for It !
    Hugs ….Dr Fred
