Visiting home for a general quick visit to Maryland. Today the whole Ashworth Clan traveled to Milleville, DE (near Bethany Beach) to celebrate the life of a very special woman, Dianne Ashworth. Aunt Dee was a huge role model and special Auntie to me growing up. She was a librarian, loved to shop, and loved her family and nieces and nephews. With no kids of their own, our Uncle Bob and Aunt Dee doted on us, always bringing treats, toys and fun things.
Aunt Dee started to get sick in 2019, with unexplainable symptoms. Later it was discovered she had a large inoperable tumor lodged deep in her brain. They did everything they could, fighting up until the final days six months later. She died April 15, 2020. With the nature of things, there was no way to get together for a funeral or services. One and a half years later, here we are, celebrating Aunt Dee. Saying our final good-byes.
What I remember about Aunt Dee growing up, was her smile. I saw her often, not just holidays. I recall being about 7 years old and remember vividly football season, and the first time I heard my aunt Dee cuss. She was an avid Redskins fan that cursed out the team numerous times. One time in my teenage angst of not being huge on football, my aunt and uncle invited me to a home Redskins Game. During the game I wears more interested in huddling under my poncho to read. I never lived that one down. Aunt Dee wasn’t the best cook, but like the rest of her Italian roots, she made the best lasagna and Italian food. She loved her family, and all of her nieces and nephews.
Today, Uncle Bob put together a beautiful Catholic service, and celebration afterwards. His home is still marked with Aunt Dee’s keen eye for style and decorating, I know he is still struggling with her being gone. They were married for 48 years. A life filled with love, just as today showed. Now she is at peace, the family remembered all the wonderful memories together. I will miss her sweet and kind nature, and I hope that she knew how dearly she is loved and always remembered.

This is both heartbreaking and beautiful. I’m glad you were able to come together and remember the joy that she brought to everyone.

She was an amazing person, and sad that she’s gone but at the same time happy that she’s at rest finally.
